It is easy to roll back to a prior Windows 7 or 8.1 installation using Windows 10. Windows 10 keeps a duplicate of the previous iteration of Windows in a folder named Windows.old during updates. If you intend to roll back, do not remove this folder as it creates a 30-day window for rollbacks.

Go to Settings, choose “Update and Security” from the pop-up box that appears, and then choose “Recovery.” The option to “Return to Windows 7 (or 8.1)” will then appear. “Go back to Windows 7 (or 8.1)” will show up in the relevant menu. The “Check for Updates” window may then show up; selecting it will start the download of any Windows 10 fixes that you haven’t yet installed. If you’re rolling back due to a software bug or missing functionality, this can be a better option for you than doing a complete rollback. You may always carry out a planned rollback following an update, though. Click No thanks if you would just like to proceed without the update.

Read the instructions and advice attentively for any windows that offer information about rolling back updates; they are essential to a successful upgrade. Make sure you have your account login password, backup your files, and don’t switch off your computer while the update is running. In each window, click Next when you’re ready. The popup that says, “Thank you for trying Windows 10,” will finally show up. By choosing “Return to Windows 7,” you may initiate the rollback procedure.

You may be asking yourself, “What if I miss the 10-day window?” at this point. We’ve got you covered, so don’t worry. You can still restore your favorite old Windows, but it will take some more effort. You will have to perform a clean install, which entails clearing your system. Thus, be sure to keep a backup copy of any file that matters.

But let’s not overlook the benefits of Windows 10 before you choose to press the revert button. It goes beyond simply having a new browser and quicker startup times. It’s about moving outside of your comfort zone and accepting the future. After all, in our tech-driven world, the only thing that is constant is change.

So, are you prepared to update to Windows 10 and accept the risk? Alternatively, are you still holding onto the past and debating whether to use the “back” button? Just keep in mind that you always have an option. Whatever you chose. Have fun with computers!
