How Liberty Walk Turned a Tiny Kei Car into a Mini Ferrari F40

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a Ferrari F40 but found the price tag out of reach, Liberty Walk has an innovative solution. The renowned Japanese tuner, famous for its extreme body kits, has unveiled a project that transforms the rare Autozam AZ-1 into a mini Ferrari F40.

The Autozam AZ-1: A Kei Car with Character

The Autozam AZ-1 is a unique kei car produced by Mazda in the early 1990s. Known for its distinctive gullwing doors, mid-engine layout, and turbocharged 657 cc three-cylinder engine, the AZ-1 delivers a modest 63 horsepower. With only about 4,400 units produced, this compact car has become a collector’s item among kei car enthusiasts.

Liberty Walk’s conversion of the Autozam AZ-1 is nothing short of radical. The tuner has added a massive rear wing, a new front bumper, side skirts, fender flares, and a rear diffuser to mimic the iconic Ferrari F40’s design. The transformation is so striking that it looks like it came straight out of a Hot Wheels collection.

Eye-Catching Design and Upgrades

The mini Ferrari F40 sports a red paint job with yellow accents, reminiscent of the original F40’s signature color scheme. The car also features upgraded 15-inch Enkei RPF1 wheels wrapped in Toyo tires. Inside, the modifications are minimal, with some carbon fiber trim and a Momo steering wheel enhancing the interior.

Liberty Walk has not disclosed the price for this conversion, but it’s expected to be high. Considering the rarity and cost of the Autozam AZ-1 and Liberty Walk’s premium body kits, this project is likely a significant investment. However, for those who want to turn heads and stand out, this mini Ferrari F40 could be worth every penny.

The Legendary Ferrari F40

The Ferrari F40 is one of the most celebrated supercars in history. It was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari and marked the company’s 40th anniversary. Featuring a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 engine, it produced 471 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque. The F40 could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 mph.

With only 1,311 units produced between 1987 and 1992, the Ferrari F40 is a rare gem. These supercars now fetch millions of dollars at auctions, with one prototype selling for $3,305,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
