End of an Era: Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio Models Say Goodbye to North America
For those who relish the roar of a high-performance engine and the allure of Italian craftsmanship, the news is bittersweet. Alfa Romeo, a brand that has long been synonymous with automotive passion and performance, is bidding farewell to its Quadrifoglio models in North America. The announcement, which came from Larry Dominique, Head of North American Operations for Alfa Romeo, marks the end of an era for the storied Quadrifoglio badge on this side of the Atlantic.
“Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Performance Models Bid Farewell to North America, For Now,” Dominique stated on LinkedIn. He urged enthusiasts to visit their local dealers for the last chance to order a Giulia Quadrifoglio or Stelvio Quadrifoglio, both boasting a 505-horsepower bi-turbo V-6. This final call to action is not just a sales pitch; it’s a historic moment as Alfa Romeo transitions to an electrified future.
The Quadrifoglio, or ‘four-leaf clover’, has been a symbol of Alfa Romeo’s racing success and high-performance vehicles for decades. The Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models, with their Ferrari-derived 505-horsepower engines, have been the epitome of this legacy. The Giulia Quadrifoglio, with its blistering 0 to 60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph, and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, with a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 176 mph, have set benchmarks in their respective categories.
However, as the automotive industry shifts gears towards electrification, Stellantis, the parent company of Alfa Romeo, is not second-guessing its strategy. The confirmation of the Quadrifoglio lineup’s discontinuation in North America was echoed across Stellantis North America’s social media accounts, underscoring the company’s commitment to an electric future.
While the Quadrifoglio models will continue to grace the roads of Europe for the time being, their days are numbered in the US and Canada. The last of these models will roll off the Cassino plant’s production line in June 2024, with orders closing at the end of April 2024. Dominique’s announcement also hinted at the possibility of hybrid Quadrifoglio models before Alfa Romeo becomes a fully electric brand by 2027.
The Quadrifoglio models have been a bright spot for Alfa Romeo, offering a compelling combination of performance, style, and driving pleasure without the usual ‘buts’ that accompanied Alfa models of the past. Their departure will leave a void for enthusiasts, but it also signals a new chapter for the brand.
For now, Alfa Romeo will continue to offer the 2.0-litre petrol versions of the Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Tonale compact crossover, in North America. But for those who desire the pinnacle of Alfa Romeo’s performance heritage, the clock is ticking. It’s time to act fast, as the Quadrifoglio models make their final bow in North America. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and for the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio models, that end is just around the corner.
